Sustainable Days in 2025: The Charm of Grass Straws, a New Eco-Friendly Choice

This year’s Sustainable Days exhibition was a journey filled with surprises and heartfelt moments for our Wonder Greener team. The enthusiasm and support from attendees for environmental sustainability far exceeded our expectations. Although Grass Straws are still gaining recognition, the in-person interactions gave us a deep sense of how ready and willing people in Taiwan are to embrace eco-friendly products.

Unveiling Grass Straws: A Natural Surprise

You might not be familiar with it yet, but Grass Straws are actually a green product made from natural plants. Unlike traditional plastic straws that burden the environment, Grass Straws are crafted from the stems of a specific species of wild grass. After use, they naturally decompose and return to the earth—leaving zero environmental impact. As a sustainable, plastic-free alternative for daily life, they offer an eco-friendly choice that’s both practical and meaningful. Certified with Taiwan’s official Green Mark, Grass Straws embody the perfect fusion of ancient wisdom and modern sustainability.

Fake Bamboo Straws? Seeing Is Believing

At the exhibition, we often encountered a funny little “moment.” Many enthusiastic visitors would approach our booth and confidently point to our Grass Straws, saying, “I know this! It’s a bamboo straw, right?” Seeing their proud expressions always made us smile and shake our heads. It was a gentle reminder that there’s still a long way to go in promoting natural straws.

We believe that firsthand experience is the best way to convince people about emerging green products like Grass Straws. That’s why, even without any “Like for a Gift” promotions, we prepared plenty of samples for visitors to truly feel the natural texture and durability of our Grass Straws. What touched us deeply was seeing many people, after carefully listening to our explanation and trying the straws for themselves, not only choose to buy them but also enthusiastically recommend them to their friends. These heartfelt moments truly warmed our hearts.

The Timeless Wisdom Behind a Single Straw

Among many touching moments, one woman’s story stood out deeply to us. When she saw our Grass Straws, tears welled up in her eyes as she shared that when she was a child in Sanxing, Yilan, her grandmother used this very plant from nature as straws. She regarded it as a remarkable wisdom of the past and felt truly comforted and moved to see this tradition revived today. She kept encouraging us to keep going and to share this sustainable wisdom that belongs to Taiwan with the world. In that moment, we genuinely felt how a simple straw can bridge past and present, connecting generations through a shared respect for the environment.

Taiwanese Are Ready, So Are Grass Straws

At the exhibition, we observed an encouraging phenomenon: nearly all the visitors to our booth were already dedicated “eco-pioneers.” They brought their own water bottles, drink carriers, and reusable bags—plastic reduction was already part of their daily lives. This strengthened our belief that, just like these long-established eco-friendly habits, Grass Straws also need time to grow and gain recognition. We are confident that they will eventually find their rightful place in Taiwanese society.

Our Philosophy of Eco Flexibility

During the promotion process, we inevitably encounter some common questions. Among them, two stand out as the most frequently asked:

1. The Bubble Tea Challenge: Taiwan is famously known as the bubble tea kingdom, and many people wonder if Grass Straws can handle tapioca pearls. Currently, Grass Straws are best suited for drinks with softer textures like grass jelly, aiyu jelly, and fruit jelly. To meet the needs of bubble tea lovers, our team is actively working on developing “thicker straws” — aiming to create wide-diameter Grass Straws that make sipping pearls easy and enjoyable. We hope to bring this innovation to you soon!
2. The Eco Myth of “Drinking Straight from the Cup”: Some people mentioned they prefer to drink their beverages directly without a straw. At Wonder Greener, we totally agree! We believe sustainability is a personal choice, and everyone has their own way. Our mission is simply to offer a natural alternative. If you can drink straight from the cup, that’s fantastic! If you prefer using reusable eco-friendly straws, as long as it helps avoid overconsumption and waste, and you keep using them repeatedly, that’s also something we wholeheartedly encourage.

Breaking the Myth: Disposable ≠ Not Eco-Friendly

We want to share an important idea: not all “single-use” products are inherently “unfriendly to the environment.” Grass Straws are an eco-friendly innovation that breaks this stereotype. Since Grass Straws made of agricultural resource, its cultivation helps reduce carbon emissions and supports soil health. After use, Grass Straws naturally decompose and return to the earth, leaving zero environmental impact.
